I never leave home without my sketch book. I draw on vacation, waiting in carpool, late at night when the world is quiet...
Original Drawings Turned into Digital Art
I scan my drawings and then play with them in a couple different design programs to get just the effect I'm looking for.
Sawing, Filing, Sanding, and More.
I punch out circles, cut squares and rectangles. I saw out interesting shapes for my one of a kind pieces. I file, sand, drill holes, and scrub getting all of my pieces ready for the enamel.
I choose what I think is going to be the best color for each piece but then in the kiln magical things happen. I like to mix colors, over fire, sprinkle in oxides and see what happens. I can do the same mix with slightly different to extremely different results. I take a look at my enameled pieces after they are fired and let them tell me which image belongs on them.
With an in house, permanent photo studio it is quick and easy to capture pictures of all of my new work. Sometimes it is shot and added to the catalogue the same day it is made.
Iron Oxide Magic
Iron oxide images can be fired onto enamel bonding it permanently into the glass. The iron oxide turns a beautiful, rich sepia color when fired.
